Why Melbourne chooses Jetblack Painting for gutter, fascia & eaves painting

Jetblack Painting repaints gutters, fascias, eaves and barge boards across Melbourne. They sit at the edge of the roof, take the worst of the sun and rain and are usually the first parts of a house to fail. Peeling fascias, rusting gutter seams and stained eaves make a freshly painted house look unfinished.

Jetblack Painting is a 5-star rated Melbourne business with 18+ years of experience, $10 million public liability insurance, and a 5-year workmanship guarantee on every project.

Why These Parts Fail First

Fascias and barge boards have exposed end grain, joins and horizontal edges that hold water. Gutters sit full of damp leaves, and their seams and fixings are where rust starts. Eaves catch any moisture that escapes from the roof or gutter above them.

They are also hard to reach, which is why they tend to be left until they are visibly failing.

Check Before You Paint

Soft or rotten timber has to be replaced before painting. A simple check is pushing a screwdriver into the fascia: if it sinks in, painting will not hold it. We point out any rot at the quote so it can be repaired first.

Paint does not fix a leaking or sagging gutter either. Rust that has gone through the metal, joins that weep and gutters that overflow need repair or replacement, and a coat of paint over them only hides the problem briefly.

Preparation and Materials

Timber is cleaned, scraped back where paint has failed and primed on any bare patches before the topcoat. Metal gutters and trims have rust treated and bare metal primed with a product suited to it.

Eaves that are stained brown from a roof leak need the leak found and fixed before they are repainted, and mould is treated rather than painted over, otherwise it returns through the new finish.

Best Done With the Roof or Exterior

Gutters and fascias share their access with the roof and the upper walls. When scaffolding or elevated access is already in place for a roof or exterior repaint, adding the trims is far more economical than returning for them later, and the colours can be coordinated across the house.

If you are only repainting trims, we can still quote them on their own.

Gutter, Fascia & Eaves Painting FAQs

Can you paint just the gutters and fascias?

Yes. They can be quoted on their own, though it is usually more economical to do them with a roof or exterior repaint when access is already set up.

What if my fascia is soft or rotten?

Rotten timber has to be replaced before painting, because paint will not hold it. We point out any rot at the quote so it can be repaired first.

Will painting my gutters stop them leaking?

No. Paint protects metal that is sound, but it does not seal a leaking join or fix a rusted-through section. Those need repair or replacement.

Why are my eaves stained brown?

Usually a leak from the roof or gutter above, carrying tannins and dirt down the lining. The leak needs fixing before the eaves are cleaned and repainted, or the stain returns.

Can you paint Colorbond gutters?

Yes, with the right preparation. Chalky surfaces are washed, rust at seams is treated and bare metal is primed with a product suited to it. If the gutters are still under a manufacturer's warranty, check the terms first.

Should gutters and fascias be painted at the same time as the roof?

Usually, yes. They share access with the roof, so doing them together saves setting up twice and lets the colours be coordinated across the house.
